Asian-Inspired Air Fryer Chicken Wings
Asian-Inspired Air Fryer Chicken Wings: Crispy, Sticky, & Straight-Up Addictive
There’s something magical about chicken wings that hit every craving at once — crispy skin, juicy meat, and a glaze so good it deserves its own spotlight.
These Asian-Inspired Air Fryer Chicken Wings are everything you want from a takeout classic — minus the grease, plus the crunch.
We’re talking golden skin with that perfect caramelized edge, brushed with a glossy sweet chili glaze that clings just right. And the kicker? They’re made entirely in the air fryer — no deep fryer, no mess, and no waiting on a delivery driver who takes the scenic route.
The secret to that restaurant-level crisp? It’s all in the prep. You dab those wings dry like they’re about to walk a runway, season them heavy with garlic, five spice, and ginger, and hit them with a double dose of cooking spray — once before they cook, and again when you flip them. That’s how you lock in that golden, paper-thin crunch that shatters when you bite into it.
When that final sweet chili glaze hits the wings — glossy, tangy, with just enough heat — it’s over. You’ll be licking your fingers like nobody’s watching.

kcalIngredients (For the Chicken)
2 lbs chicken wings (split into flats and drumettes)
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
½ tsp ginger powder
1 tsp Chinese five spice
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp Accent (MSG, optional but enhances flavor)
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
2 tbsp cornstarch
- For the Glaze:
½ cup sweet chili sauce
1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for balance)
- For Garnish:
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
2 stalks green onions, chopped
Directions
- Marinate the Chicken:
– In a large bowl, whisk together garlic paste, grated ginger, ginger powder, Chinese five spice, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, Accent, black pepper, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, hoisin, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil (if using).
– Add the wings and toss to coat evenly. Sprinkle cornstarch over the mixture and toss again until lightly coated.
– Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator. - Dry the Chicken:
Remove wings from the bowl and dab each one dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture — this ensures a crisp skin when air fried. - Preheat the Air Fryer:
Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes. - Cook the Chicken:
– Lightly spray the air fryer basket once before adding wings.
– Arrange wings skin side down in a single layer without overcrowding.
– Lightly spray the tops of the chicken, not the basket.
– Air fry at 390°F for 6 minutes per side (12 minutes total).
– Flip halfway through and respray the tops of the chicken before cooking the second side.
– For larger wings, cook an additional 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Glaze the Wings:
– While wings finish cooking, warm the sweet chili sauce (and soy sauce if using) in a small saucepan for 2–3 minutes over low heat.
– Once done, toss the wings in the warm glaze until fully coated and glossy. - Garnish & Serve:
Plate the wings and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve immediately while hot and crisp.
Notes
- These wings are crispy, sticky, and flavor-loaded the perfect marriage of five spice, garlic, and sweet chili heat. Serve them as a Game Day favorite, a Boys Night In showstopper, or your next air fryer flex.
